What The SLUT?
I like working with themes, and I plan to blog about insight I get from movies and TV shows. I'm calling the theme of this series of blogposts 'Tales of a Righteous Slut.' And I feel like I should explain this theme before sharing my movie insight.
I have a love affair with oxymorons. I came up with 'righteous slut' in 2002 and considered it genius! I still can't believe I thought of it. Another one for which I may write more on later is 'impotent hard-on.' You see I am a spiritually minded person and have been for as long as I can remember, with my earliest memory from when I was a baby and my parents swimming with me in a pool. I also have a weird since of humor!
And since I am also a sexual being- hey, I have three kids!- I know somewhere there is a place for both to reside. Seriously, there is, and I plan to write more on that. In the meantime, feel free to read, Napoleon Hill's, Think and Grow Rich. While I don't recommend skipping around, I must say Chapter 11, The Mystery of Sex Transmutation, is pretty much the key to everything! Sex is good. It is a yearning to create. And we all use it, transmute it when we play an instrument, paint, write, draw, make babies, etc. That is what it is, and there is no shame in creation! The connection between sex and life's mysteries, or for all intents and purposes, spirituality, is too close for comfort to deny.
My bottom line is that my discernment of 'righteous' and the implication of promiscuity in the word 'slut' are humorously connected. We can be so sure of our own goodness that we are blind to our pride and our indulgence in it. A 'righteous slut' was born!

Flipping Scripts
When I watch movies or TV shows, it is difficult for me to just enjoy the visuals. I tend to hang on to each word and my internal alarm system buzzes when key words, phrases, and scenes point to a different dimension. It happens with every movie and TV show I watch. I find so much value in finding the hidden message within the scripts, that this process has become second nature to me. I love sharing my insight! So here's to adding value to entertainment in a way that has inspired me to take action. Because I do take action from the insight I find staring into the black mirror. The irony of watching movies to learn how to change one's life seems like a proper fit for my 'Tales of a Righteous Slut' theme.
I'll be writing about The Shawshank Redemption first. So check back soon!
